Seniors Soak Up Sunshine During February Sarah’s Fund Day
Sevier County Seniors Enjoy a Scenic Drive Through the Smokies During Monthly Sarah’s Fund Day.
The Dolly Parton My People Senior Activity Center recently held its monthly Sarah’s Fund Day on February 8, treating Sevier County Seniors to a fun-filled day of activities. Twelve ladies were in attendance at this month’s event, during which they had a wonderful day enjoying a scenic drive through the Smokies.
Sunshine and Sunny Dispositions.
At the beginning of the day, the seniors in attendance were delighted to hear that they would be loading up the bus to go on a drive through the Great Smoky Mountains. After decorating the bus for Valentine’s Day and heading out on their journey, they made a quick stop where everyone ordered their choice of iced coffee or iced tea. They all thoroughly enjoyed their special treats as the bus made its way through Wears Valley to Townsend, then stopped at the Welcome Center before entering Cades Cove.
Driving through Cades Cove, the bus made a few stops along the way, where everyone was able to get out to take pictures and even walk through one of the beautiful cemeteries. They were excited to see deer and other wildlife during the excursion, a real highlight of the day that everyone enjoyed.
The group then headed back toward Sevierville, stopping on the way to have lunch at Apple Valley in Townsend. During lunch, each person was given a small box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day, the cherry on top of a perfect, sunny day.
Karen Estep, Business Manager for the My People Senior Activity Center shared,
“We took 12 ladies out for the day, and they LOVED it. It’s easy to forget just how shut in many of these ladies feel until you are reminded on a day like today. Several said it had been years since they had been able to take a drive like this.”
For many seniors, the opportunities to do something outside of their homes or assisted living facilities are few and far between. Sarah’s Fund is delighted to help provide monthly activities and assistance to Sevier County Seniors, keeping them happy, healthy and active.
