An Unexpected Treat for Seniors During September Sarah’s Fund Day
Sevier County Seniors Surprised With Special Outing During Monthly Sarah’s Fund Day.
The Dolly Parton My People Senior Activity Center recently held its monthly Sarah’s Fund Day on September 14, giving seniors in Sevier County a full day of fun activities. Nearly a dozen seniors were in attendance at this month’s event, where they enjoyed crafting and an extra-special surprise.
Each Sarah’s Fund Day offers seniors the opportunity to socialize, while enjoying a variety of activities together. The day’s activities normally include a craft project, guest entertainment and a catered lunch. The entertainer for this month’s event had to cancel at the last minute, leaving the senior center to improvise.
A Day of Surprises.
The seniors delighted in two crafting projects this month. In the spirit of fall, they each made a gorgeous autumn lantern to take home with them. They also created their own colorful beaded bracelets, which they wore proudly.
To make up for the canceled entertainment, the staff took the seniors on a surprise lunch outing. Karen Estep, Business Manager for the My People Senior Activity Center shared,
For many seniors, the opportunities to do something outside of their homes or assisted living facilities are few and far between. Even the simple gesture of taking them out to eat can make a big difference. Sarah’s Fund is glad to help provide monthly activities and assistance to Sevier County Seniors, keeping them happy, healthy and active.
