Seniors Greet the Holidays During November Sarah’s Fund Day
Sevier County Seniors Craft Handmade GREETING cards During Monthly Sarah’s Fund Day.
Seniors in Sevier County celebrated the start of the holiday season during this month’s Sarah’s Fund Day, held November 9 at The Dolly Parton My People Senior Activity Center. Each Sarah’s Fund Day offers seniors the opportunity to enjoy a full day of fun activities, food and fellowship.
To kick off the day of activities, seniors crafted handmade greeting cards for Christmas. Everyone was filled with the holiday spirit as they used a variety of festive stamps, colored pencils and other art supplies to create their own Christmas greetings which they could take home to give to their loved ones. After finishing their crafting projects, seniors were treated to a special presentation by a Wildlife Rehab specialist who brought along "Parker the Possum." Parker is an Educational Ambassador that was found and rescued from the parking lot of the My People Senior Activity Center. When the staff of the Senior Center found Parker, he was tiny, born without eyes and abandoned by his mother. So, Wildlife Rehab rescued the baby possum, and his life is now history. The group enjoyed petting Parker, hearing his story and about the Wildlife Rehab project. Finishing off the day, everyone in attendance enjoyed delicious homemade soup, a selection of sandwiches and a huge brownie sundae for dessert!
For many seniors, the opportunities to do something outside of their homes or assisted living facilities are few and far between. Sarah’s Fund is glad to help provide monthly activities and assistance to Sevier County Seniors, keeping them happy, healthy and active.
